STORY OF FA CUP :
The competition created in 1871 is the initiative of Charles Alcock of The Sportsman Journal. He proposes on July 20 the creation of a competition opposing all the members of the football association. The first teams to participate are amateur teams. The first final is win by Wanderers. It’s a club composed of high private school.
From 1883, the victory of a club of worker (Blackburn Olympic) marks the passage of the professionalism. More and more professional clubs are growing in the country. The competition is gradually becoming a national and even European event. 100,000 spectators attended the final in 1923. In 22 years, clubs based in London won the FA Cup 11 times. From 1990, the clubs of the “Big Four” (Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea) won 19 times the competition.
WINNERS AND FINALIST :
It’s the London club Arsenal who holds the record of Victory in FA Cup. He won it 13 times. Arsenal (in 1971, 1998 and 2002) and Manchester United (in 1994, 1996 and 1999) managed to win the English Premier League and FA Cup in the same season.
In 1999, the Manchester United club was the only club to have achieved a triple feat by winning the English Premier League, the Champions League and the FA Cup.
In 148 years, only three clubs have managed to win at least two consecutive titles. Tottenham Hotspur win in 1961, 1962 and 1981, 1982. The club of Wanderers is aslo win in 1872, 1873 and 1876, 1877, 1878. Finaly, Blackburn Rovers win 1884, 1885, 1886 and 1890, 1891.
Cardiff City is the only club that does not live in England that won the FA Cup. They defeated Arsenal in 1927.
Ashley Cole is the player who holds the record of victory with 7 trophies (3 with Arsenal and 4 with Chelsea).
